Biography:

Matt Hammitt is an American singer, songwriter and speaker. For twenty years, Matt was the lead singer and songwriter for multi-Dove Award-winning, Grammy-nominated band Sanctus Real. During that time, the band released eight albums under Sparrow Records, toured internationally and released 14 Top 5 and #1 singles to Christian radio.

In 2015, Matt stepped away from Sanctus Real to invest more time into family and other ministry ventures alongside his wife of 15 years, Sarah. They have four children, Emmy (11), Claire (9), Bowen (6) and Lewis (4). After stepping away from the band, Matt and Sarah launched ”Lead Me Live” conferences and concert events, focusing on building men, marriages, and families. They also partner with Family Life’s “Weekend to Remember” events, where Matt serves as a speaker.

In July 2016, Matt partnered with Seth Mosley’s Full Circle Music company, first as a writer for FCM Songs, and later signed an album deal with FCM Records. His second solo album will serve as his FCM debut, set for a 2017 release. Tears, the first radio single from Matt’s forth-coming LP, broke into the Billboard Christian Airplay Top 50 chart within two weeks of it’s debut.

In 2010, Matt’s son, Bowen, was diagnosed with a life-threatening heart defect at 19 weeks in utero. Leading up to Bowen’s birth, Matt wrote his first solo album, Every Falling Tear, carrying the theme of trusting God in life's darkest seasons. The album was released in September 2011 on Sparrow Records. He also released a children’s book with co-author Jason Ingram titled, I Couldn’t Love You More. (Tyndale House Publishers).

Shortly after Bowen’s birth, Matt and Sarah’s blog, Bowen’s Heart (Bowensheart.com), drew hundreds of thousands of readers. With the support of their friends and readers, they launched Whole Hearts Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial, emotional and spiritual support for families of children living with pediatric heart disease.
